An increasing number of practitioners of Asian medicine today clear their way through the dense networks of transnational relations and sociomaterial influences that characterize therapeutic globalization. They are an integral part of a diversity of “assemblages” which, in their multiplicity and heterogeneity, indeed produce and complexify the global. In a way, they are forging globalization while at the same time particularizing it. The latest issue of Revue d’Anthropologie des Connaissances takes this situation has a starting point to observe both the making of globalization itself and the consubstantial processes of knowledge production and transformation. The papers explore the inherent transcultural fabric of therapeutic knowledge in this context: this include the political relations between France and China and their impact on the perception and reception of acupuncture in the latter country, the contemporary transformation of South Asian medical knowledge to meet the needs and regulatory regimes of the Western markets, the global circulation of biomedical methods of clinical research and their effect on Chinese medicine, and the translation of Tibetan medical knowledge in Himalayan clinics directed towards foreigners.
